Maria

Description

The portrait of a girl in 60s -70s in Japan.

Maria depicts the chaotic trajectory of a wealthy girl, whose family made a fortune in the after war. New arrival in a school of girls, Maria is independent and indomitable. She sleeps indifferently with girls or boys, and causes confusion among students as well as teachers, attracting fights and disasters.

With Maria, the story of a teenager in 70's Japan, master Kazuo Kamimura tackles the taboos of his time. The excellence of its staging, the elegance of its line, serve wonderfully a striking, uncompromising writing. As with "Dosei Jidai", and in the image of the new wave, Kazuo Kamimura upsets the Japanese society and blows a new wind on the manga. Perhaps the most sultry of Kamimura titles.
