The Black-Haired Mercenary Who Went West

Description

The protagonist, Cho Yugang, is a 21st-century Korean mercenary who served 8 years in a private military company (PMC) after 7 years in South Korea’s special forces. After retiring, he travels to the American West to honor the dying wish of his deceased comrade “Eric” — visiting a place Eric had always loved (the Bisti Badlands). During that trip, he experiences an unexplainable phenomenon of transmigration, waking up in the 19th century, trapped in the body of another Korean man from the Joseon era named Lee Mak-san, who is about to be sold into slavery. Set against the turbulent backdrop of the pre-Civil War American West — amid rising tensions over slavery, dangerous bounty hunters, gold rush prospectors, and rough cowboys — the story raises a central question: will this time-displaced Korean man manage to survive?
